LES DERNIERS RÊVES DES GARDENS DE LA NUIT
“Les derniers rêves des gardiens de la nuit" is inspired by the homonymous
voodoo “nightwatchmen” who traditionally provide law and order in the communities in Togo and Benin. Once they fall into trance they are said to evoke a power that inhabited the earth long before the appearance of man and provide a source of wisdom and continuity for the people.
Our western culture is based on the idea of forthgoing innovation, which can be wise as long as it is a reorganization of methods based on ancient knowledge, combined with new technologies. Very often, though, we discard proved knowledge and further “contemporary man” has the urge to drown the “unexplainable”, forgetting that the unknown is the salt of life. Taking it away means repressing a great source of phantasy, which is, on the other hand, necessary to come up with revolutionary ideas.
